The Need

The ten-year facilities plan of the Rockford School District 205 was developed through a year-long process to determine the District’s facilities needs. The process included over 10,000 surveys completed by District staff, parents and members of the public, as well a numerous open public hearings.

The information gathered showed that, while the District’s schools are structurally solid, they need varying degrees of repair, improvements and upgrades to provide comfortable, modern learning environments. In some cases, the needs have resulted from decades of deferred maintenance and a failure to invest in our facilities. Many classrooms have only two electrical outlets, which is woefully in adequate in today’s electronic classroom environment.

The facilities plan addresses these needs and was adopted by the unanimous vote of the elected school board, representing all seven subdistricts.

We believe it is critical to this community that these facilities’ needs be addressed. We cannot expect our children to go to schools in buildings that have not been painted in 20 years, having carpeting held together with duct tape, and surrounded by crumbling sidewalks and playgrounds.
